Managing a Civil & Family Legal Aid Contract Toolkit

We have developed a Toolkit that draws together key information to enable practices to understand their legal aid contract. Particularly useful for those new to delivering legal aid, it links to more detailed sources from the LAA, LAPG and others. Designed as a comprehensive resource for the people in your organisation responsible for day to day management of your legal aid contract.

Online Legal Aid Training

We are developing a series which provides a general introduction to the civil legal aid scheme and the various categories of legal aid aimed at trainees, paralegals, junior lawyers and those that wish to refresh their knowledge having worked in the sector for some time.

They are online self-study modular courses that you complete at your own pace, with external links for up-to-date Legal Aid Agency information.

Legal Aid Supervision Course

If you need to attend a course to qualify as a legal aid supervisor or check that you are up to date with the latest requirements, this is the course for you! Legal aid supervisors need knowledge of their subject and practice experience, which we can’t do for you; but if you are new to supervision, or haven’t supervised a full-time equivalent caseworker in the past 5 years, this course will ensure you meet the LAA’s Generic Supervisor Requirements (Section 2(ii) of the Supervisor Self-Declaration Forms).

LAPG Management & Leadership Programme

The 2025 programme has now begun! The course is designed for around 30 participants each year. It runs for about 60 hours across 7 months and participants have full access to an allocated Tutor with 1-2-1 time written into the Programme.

This is the most comprehensive management and leadership training programme for the non-profit specialist advice sector, developed by Matthew Howgate and Vicky Ling following extensive research with practitioners. Matthew Howgate and Jayne Butler are the lead tutors for the 2025 Programme.

Management Training

Management training delivered by experienced organisational development consultants that will equip you with the tools you need to manage effectively. We offer a range of training that covers relevant topics using various forms of delivery. These training courses are aimed at those working in Private Practice.

We are always happy to develop courses for members and to run courses in-house.
